Initially, the club was hopeful the 35-year-old Talbot would be able to suit up last weekend, but he wasn’t given clearance to play. The decision to not start him against the Boston Bruins on Monday gave him a few extra days on the ice to get ready for this return. Both of the club’s prospects made starts while Talbot was still nursing his injury; Sogaard posted a 2-0-1 record with a 2.94 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage while Mandolese was 1-1-0 in two appearances with a 2.45 GAA and .938 save percentage.
“I don’t know which team — that’s even in the hunt — if they had to go to goalies No. 3 and No. 4 would stay in the hunt. Those two guys did a really nice job for us.”“What more can you say about them? They gave us a chance to win every night,” Talbot said. “They came in, they played confident, they asserted themselves, they were patient and they handled themselves extremely well. They were very composed back there and did the job for us.
“There’s definitely a possibility ,” Sanderson said. “That was the game I had circled on the calendar for me to get back. The plan was just to go with the yellow jersey and then the black jersey , and see how it is after that. It’s a definite possibility.”
