Man facing first-degree murder charge in death of woman struck by car in Cole Harbour | SaltWireThe Ottawa Senators made another key addition to the club’s off-ice team as the era of new owner Michael Andlauer begins to shift into high gear.

Staois and Nichol have a long history together that goes back to the former’s playing days, so this decision isn’t unexpected. The 50-year-old Staois worked with Nichol as a player and believes he had a big influence on his career. Nichol was in a role as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2002-09. He played a key role on Team Canada’s staff at the World Cup of Hockey in 2004 when the country won gold under late head coach Pat Quinn.“I am incredibly fortunate to have met Matt Nichol,” Staois said.

“He’s well known in his field and he’s very high up and respected,” Smith said following the club’s 43-minute skate at the Canadian Tire Centre. “I’ve met with him personally over the years and he’s a really easy guy to talk to. But he’s also intelligent and sharp in what he brings. Smith, a former player, noted Nichol will play a key role with the coaching staff in determining the schedule.
