GARRIOCH: Lorie Kane ready to make a fond farewell to CP Women's Open

Lorie Kane will be carrying the memory of her late father, Jack Kane, close to her heart.

That’s because the head cover she’ll use for that club has special meaning. Made by the Nova Scotia-based Dormie Workshop, it reads “St. Dunstan’s Saints” on the front and is cashmere on the back with the name Kane.

While there will be no shortage of eyes on Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Kane will be getting plenty of attention when she tees off at 12:20 p.m. on No. 10 with Alena Sharp of Hamilton and Australian Sarah Jane Smith. “I had a very successful week by winning my first tournament in St. Louis before that tournament after nine second-place finishes, and I finally got over the threshold. I just thought if I can’t be in Vancouver for my 30th, I’m going to be in Ottawa for my 30th, and I feel like it’s come full circle.”

Her impact is why Golf Canada announced the creation of the “Lorie Kane Community Spirit” awards Wednesday. The two awards will given to people using golf to make a positive impact on their communities.
