It’s time for the bidders of the Ottawa Senators to put up or shut up.

The expectation is the bids will come in somewhere between $800 million and $1 billion , but Postmedia has confirmed Anna and Olivia Melnyk informed those bidders given access to the data room in the past three weeks they’d like to retain up to 10 per cent of the franchise.

Naturally, the best-case scenario for the league is that all six parties remaining make strong bids, but NHL sources aren’t convinced that will be the case. Vivek Ranadivé, owner of the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association, was the last of the expected bidders to visit the Canadian Tire Centre, on April 10, to meet with the club’s management and is a wildcard. He kicked tires on the franchise for three months and sources say he had more than one conversation with Reynolds.

But he also knows that whoever wins the auction has to be able receive approval from the NHL’s board of governors. Galatioto has no margin for error.
