GARRIOCH: A humbled Daniel Alfredsson joins the NHL\u0027s greats in Hockey Hall of Fame
“He deserves it,” said Brian Kilrea, the legendary former 67’s general manager and coach who was inducted in the Hall in 2003 and was on hand with his wife, Judy, on Monday. “In the city of Ottawa, he’s everything.”
He spent the past four months preparing for this and Alfredsson wanted to share this induction with the people of Ottawa. “I was lucky to have been able to play in front of such passionate and knowledgeable fans, and I will never forget the ‘Alfie’ chants. I am so proud to represent Ottawa tonight.”Article content
“I know it wasn’t always easy for our parents, but you always did the best you could and you always found a way to make it work,” Alfredsson said. “Dad, you were a very good athlete and you taught me everything from hockey, soccer, ping pong and tennis. Whenever you came home exhausted from your work as a carpenter, and you probably wanted to put your feet up on the couch, you would always play with me outside. All the way until mom yelled, ‘Dinner’s ready.
