The 1st annual Salty Marie Trails Festival brought 200 cyclists and runners of all ages to Hiawatha Highlands on Saturday

A light breeze and some sunshine were the ideal conditions for the dozens of cycling and running enthusiasts who came together at Hiawatha Highlands for the community’s first-ever Salty Marie Trails Festival.

Presented by Red Pine Tours, more than 200 athletes of all ages participated in a variety of races that took them through Hiawatha’s growing mountain bike trail system on Saturday. The event featured several mountain bike races, as well as a running race, vendors, bike brand demonstrations, refreshments, and family-friendly activities.Proceeds from the event are going towards the Kinsmen Club of Sault Ste. Marie, Sault Cycling Club and Sault Ste. Marie Search and Rescue. Each of those organizations are recognized for helping make it possible to safely cycle at Hiawatha.
