When it comes to dealing with the unhoused population of Halifax, it’s starting to feel like we’re rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

A similar situation is happening around the province and across the country.

The province is now building new Pallet communities with wraparound services to house African Nova Scotians and seniors, but these won’t be ready for months. And they can’t build them fast enough to cope with sheer numbers. The other problem is that Pallet communities and shelters aren’t suitable for many tenters who are coping with mental health problems and addictions to drugs and alcohol.
