Gabriel Jesus struck twice within seven second-half minutes as ManCity opened 2020 with a win over Everton.

The Brazilian’s first goal in the 51st minute was a fine curled finish after being played in by Ilkay Gundogan. His second was a first-time strike at the end of a slick passing move, with Riyad Mahrez playing the final ball.

Norwich looked headed toward its first home win in eight games thanks to Todd Cantwell’s early goal but Wickham converted Wilfried Zaha’s cross from close range in the 85th minute.Norwich took just four minutes to go in front as Emi Buendia’s burst into the box ended with his shot being blocked, but the ball fell kindly for an unmarked Cantwell, who coolly slotted home his sixth goal of the season from close range.

Norwich nearly doubled its lead after 73 minutes when Kenny McLean’s rising close-range volley smacked against the crossbar, with the loose ball ricocheting to safety. Mark Noble scored twice while Sebastien Haller and Felipe Anderson added a goal each as the Hammers looked resurgent after a poor run of form under previous manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The midfielder’s first-time shot took a deflection off Lewis Cook which wrongfooted goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
