Amid rumours that Drake would show up, the crowd patiently waited for Future’s performance. And was eventually rewarded.

Only a handful of artists can make you forget they were even late. Future is one of them.

Then “Keep It Burnin” played, an actual track by Future and like a pebble dropped in water, the crowd rippled with excitement pushing forward, phones shooting into the air in anticipation. The song ended. Then “Life Is Good” by Future featuring Drake played with Banks shouting “Toronto get your camera phones in the sky!” and just like that a crowd that was weary and shrinking was captive again. The rumour that was on everyone’s mind but rarely spoke out loud could be here. Drake.

With astonishing pyrotechnics “Stick Talk” starts with blacked out masked women armed with AK-47’s on the big screen behind Future. Walking up and down the stage he let the audience rap the track for him as he sprinkled in some of his own live lyrics. Without the need to rap his lyrics Future makes his performance one that spans 360 degrees. He constantly changes directions rapping to fans in the crowd who were diligent and patient enough to get a barricade spot. And in the other tribute track “Relationship” he didn’t even rap, just implored the audience which gleefully indulged him as he hyped them up.

It wasn’t all hype though. Saying it was the last song, Future played “Way 2 Sexy,” a Drake song he’s featured on, while dripping in sweat. The song ended, to a lull. The murmurs of Drake began again in the crowd.
