Premier Andrew Furey is extending his support to Nova Scotia, which after weeks of out-of-control wildfires, is now dealing with extreme rain and heavy flooding.
A province-wide state of emergency has been declared in Nova Scotia as rain continues to pound areas already underwater—the same areas that faced large wildfires in the months prior.Furey says Newfoundland and Labrador is here to help in any way needed. In this province, rainfall warnings are in effect with up to 150 mm of rain forecasted for parts of the southwest coast stretching from Francois to Port aux Basques.
The Trans Canada Highway, 8 km east of Port aux Basques, has been reduced to one lane due to road washout. RCMP say delays are expected.
