The shooting happened at the church “Boomers Potluck” dinner that started at 5 p.m. Police were called to the church at 6:22 p.m. on reports of an active shooter.
Another church member, Jim Musgrove, hit the shooter with a chair and wrestled the gun away from him. One of Rainey’s children, author and speaker Melinda Rainey Thompson, released a statement about her father on behalf of the Rainey family.
