PORTAPIQUE, N.S. — Residents of Portapique and the surrounding communities will soon have a new space to come together with the completion of a new community centre.“The grand opening of the new community centre for Portapique is indeed an occasion for commemoration,” said Premier Houston. “It represents the community’s journey of healing and harmony. As we celebrate the centre, let us honour the legacy of those who were lost by living each day with purpose, passion and gratitude.
The centre will be an accessible cultural hub that supports communities in the region with events, culture, arts, food, recreation, and community programming. As a community-driven project, it will also help address multiple recommendations from thefor five years of operating costs and a multi-year strategy and operating plan for the community centre to ensure its long-term sustainability.
“Our mission has been to build a positive, forward-looking sense of community in Portapique by revitalizing the Riverside Community Hall. This Community Build Up+ project has been an opportunity for our neighbours to come together and create something positive for our community”, said Andrew MacDonald, Chair of the Trustees of Riverside Community Hall Association.
“With the recent funding from Nova Scotia, we can close the chapter on our Community Build Up+ and open the next one where we can spread our community spirit throughout the Fundy Shore for generations to come.”It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
