Coins have been symbols of commemoration around the world for centuries — take a look at Canada's history through its coinage
Typically, a coin is considered rare if it has not been minted in mass production and now exists in very limited quantities. Commemorative coins, minted in smaller quantities, tell the story of Canada’s history.$1 million Canadian Gold Maple Leaf
In 2017, one of the six coins was stolen from the Bode Museum in Berlin, Germany. A spokesperson for the Royal Canadian Mint said “the stolen coin does not belong to the mint. After creating the original , the mint manufactured five more that were sold to interested private individuals.” In 2019, the coin was sold for $734,000 to a Canadian numismatic dealers who offered it to the Bank of Canada Museum “to ensure that Canada’s most important coin remains within Canada’s public cultural sphere,” the museum said in an article.
Great Britain and its Commonwealth nations anticipated King Edward VIII inheriting the throne and began making coins reflecting the incoming monarch.
