Jan Guppy advocates for the families of missing people on a volunteer basis from her home in Laval, Que., with the goal of bringing them hope, support and — most importantly — answers.

Jan Guppy looks at the RCMP's unidentified human remains database daily and uses her Facebook page and a network of volunteers to find answers.

Her greystone fireplace is often lit, herbs growing beneath heat lamps all around her. She spends her days helping people find out what happened to their missing loved ones. She then contacts the U.S.-based Aware Foundation, a volunteer-run organization that advocates for the families of missing people. The foundation creates flyers to bring new awareness to old cases, and encourages anyone who might know something to reach out.Stephanie Snow-Mckisic, an Aware Foundation volunteer, says she talks to Guppy nearly every day.

Jan Guppy is the administrator of Unidentified Human Remains Canada, a Facebook page dedicated to helping identify missing people. Jan Guppy retired from her day job as an energy broker and now dedicates her time to advocate for the families of missing people on a volunteer basis. But, she says she was able to find one man alive in California after he had been missing for three years."He still has not come home, but at least the family knows he's alive and well.
