Lifelong friends and TeamCanada golf Olympians Brooke Henderson and Bailey Andison hail from the same supportive, small-town speck on the map: Smiths Falls, Ont. Tokyo2020 TokyoTakeTwo

“I’ve never seen her compete in person, just the odd time on TV when it’s on, but she gets in this zone. She is just so focused when she’s playing, I can see it on her face,” Andison said. “The way she is in person and in a conversation and just a normal setting, it’s a completely different atmosphere that she creates and it’s so cool to see her really home in on what she’s doing. I’ve always really admired that about her.

Now they’re two of 371 athletes representing Canada at these Tokyo Summer Games — one in the pool and the other on the fairways and greens.Article contentWhen Andison qualified to race in the 200-metre individual medley, Henderson described the swimming standout in a social-media post as her “childhood bestie.”

“I think work ethic and determination have both played a big role in our successes,” Henderson said. “We both have dreamed big, worked hard and received necessary breaks to achieve our goals to this point. Hopefully, we can continue to improve every day and perform well when it counts.” Now, they’re making Smiths Falls proud. Apparently, the streets are decorated with signs and banners that celebrate these hometown talents.
