Holiday Cirque is presenting its Holiday Dreams show at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro on Dec. 21, and the show is free for the public. - ContributedTRURO, N.S. — Coming out of the COVID pandemic, the Rath Eastlink Community Centre is expressing its appreciation and gratitude to Colchester County with a free cirque show featuring world-class performers.
“We're coming into our 10th anniversary and the community has been so supportive over the challenges that we faced with the pandemic. It hasn't even been a full year yet that we've been fully open again and we've bounced back right to where we were pre-pandemic,” said Moore. “It's just a great way to kick off the celebrations ... we decided that this would be the best one to make free just knowing it would be appealing to everybody.
“I remember being very young, growing up in Europe and watching my father perform in an amazing circus and it was magical,” said Quevedo. “The only problem was that they were all shows made for adults. I couldn't go see my father perform! My father would say, 'Well, create a show and hire me and let all the kids in.' He was of course joking, but that stuck in my 12-year-old mind.”
All of this is connected by a “mischievous” story about an elf who mailed himself to the wrong address. Offering a free event comes with the logistical restraints of capacity. Half of the tickets were offered first to RECC members on Dec. 6, and on Dec. 7, tickets opened to the public and were gone within minutes. Moore said another small percentage are being held and later presented to some frontline workers. If there are individuals who find they are no longer able to use their free ticket, they can contact the RECC to return it and offer another community member a spot.
