The Clippers beat the Raptors Wednesday in Los Angeles, but the Toronto guard had pointed words for referee Ben Taylor.
It was much less obvious and didn’t have much to do with the eventual outcome of the night, but a technical foul Fred VanVleet got from referee Ben Taylor in the third quarter of Toronto’s 108-100 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers lit a fuse under the Raptor veteran.“I like a lot of the refs , they’re trying hard, they’re pretty fair, and communicate well and then you got the other ones who just want to be d--ks and just kind of f---ks the game up,” VanVleet said.
VanVleet wasn’t done lambasting Taylor specifically and NBA refereeing in general in a diatribe that will surely cost him a substantial fine from the league. “And if I say to my team, ‘Come on, guys, let’s keep playing to the bull---t’ and that warrants a tech I think that’s I think that’s a little bit crazy.”
“I think the jurisdiction and the power trip that we’ve been on this year with some of our officials in his league is getting out of hand,” VanVleet said. “And I’ll take my fine for speaking on it but it’s just this is f---ing ridiculous.” “When we do that, we’ve got to turn that into offence; if we’re going to play all this defence and deflect all these passes and get all these steals then we got to make hay at the other end, for sure.It was noticeable in a negative way for the Raptors. They had 96 field goal attempts to 71 for the Clippers but shot just 38.5 per cent from the field to 54.9 per cent for Los Angeles.
