SYDNEY, N.S. — A statement from the Canadian Hurricane Centre (CHC) on Friday said tropical storm Franklin will “most likely” miss Nova Scotia next week.

In the CHC’s first bulletin addressing the storm — expected to strengthen into a hurricane over the weekend — it said it had a “somewhat better idea” of how the storm would affect Atlantic Canada now that Franklin is close enough.

“It does look more likely the centre of the storm will remain offshore but it's possible we could see some significant rain,” Aalders said. “It all depends on the track and intensity, plus how it interacts with a non-tropical low.” Current models show high winds and seas from Franklin will be most prevalent well offshore, running up toward eastern Newfoundland. However, other weather systems are expected to be in Atlantic Canada when Franklin passes through — which could have an impact in the Maritimes.
