But in today’s society, particularly in the developed world, that is no longer the case. Seniors who live by themselves not only face a lack of assistance related to mobility and health, but often have to cope with great loneliness and solitude, which have a detrimental effect on their mental health. And yet most elderly people want to stay in their homes as long as they can before moving to a seniors’ care facility.
The organization truly embodies the volunteer spirit and has made great contributions to the community where a number of our employees live and work. I believe the Neighbourhood Network concept could be a role model for the creation of Friendship Circles and similar community associations or groups whose main purpose would be to bring together people in need with people who want to lend a helping hand.
