State election regulators confirmed this week they are reviewing a complaint filed against Chula Vista Councilmember Andrea Cardenas that alleges she violated conflict-of-interest and economic-interests disclosure laws.
The FPPC still needs time to determine whether to open an investigation, said spokesperson Jay Wierenga.In recent months, the City Council has met in closed session to discuss Caligrown’s lawsuit against the city, for which Cardenas has been in attendance, according to minutes of city meetings.that Chula Vista “acted in an arbitrary and capricious manner” when it rejected Caligrown’s applications to open dispensaries in Districts 1, 3 and 4.
“For me, this is a larger conversation that must create an opportunity for substantive community input,” she added. “However, I do believe that the future of cannabis in our city should be guided by principles that prioritize social equity and aim to mend the disproportionate effects the war on drugs had on our black and brown communities.
