Fox News editor says AOC 'doesn't know' what animus means, calls word use a 'Freudian slip'
When pressed by host Bill Hemmer, who cut in to say:"you're giving her a pass on the word animus," Stirewalt restated his previous assessment.
"No, I'm saying she doesn't know what it is," he responded."I think she doesn't know what that word meant. I think she used it incorrectly. I think it was a Freudian slip." During the ABC News interview, Ocasio-Cortez was asked about"progressive frustration" with Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who has thus far stood firm against pursuing impeachment of the president without public support. Ocasio-Cortez said she thought the frustration was"quite real."
"I believe there is a very real animus and desire to make sure that we are holding this president to account," she said. Some have interpreted her comments as suggesting progressive members of Congress felt"animus" toward Pelosi, but it's unclear from her comments whether she was referring to the speaker or to TrumpRepresentative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez speaks during a meeting of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on June 12 on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
Ocasio-Cortez has regularly pushed back against this criticism, arguing that the attacks are sexist and a concerted attempt to discredit her work in Congress."Leveraging those who belittle my capacity is exactly how I defeated a multi-generation, multi-million $ political machine," she wrote in a December tweet.
