'I’d say our news division is growing, and I’d welcome people to check us out for themselves and make their own decisions.”
, two years ago was a statement that the network is as committed to hard news as it is to prime time opinion. “Journalism is a huge part of the mandate here,” Wallace said, pointing to the work of anchors like Bream, Martha MacCallum, Bret Baier and Bill Hemmer, and reporters like John Roberts, Trace Gallagher and Trey Yingst.
“The news division is well staffed, we have the veterans, we have the newbies,” said Bream, whose newscast will often be dominated by breaking news–often in the form of a late-night tweet from Donald Trump. “He’s actually making news as our hour is going on, so sometimes we fly by the seat of our pants.” In recent days, has had live coverage from the White House and the Pentagon, as well as live breaking news on developments in Syria and Turkey.
“We have this clear delineation between people like Sean and Laura and Tucker and folks like Bret Baier and Brit Hume, Martha and Bill Hemmer and so many others,” Bream told me. When someone suggests that Fox is all conservative politics and no news, Bream pushes back. “I’ll say to people, ‘hey, do you watch us at all? I’ll give you an experiment, watch us for an hour, pick one of the news shows: 6, 7, 11. There are any number of products you can choose. Watch it for a week and get back to me I would love to hear what you have to say.’”
Bream may also be one of the few cable news anchors willing to let viewers see her having her makeup applied, as she does in pre-show teases posted to Twitter:
