The health clinic hosted a meeting Tuesday evening and invited community members to share their thoughts on the potential demolition. The meeting was also attended by Fort Worth City Council member Jeanette Martinez.Aly Layman, executive director of Mercy Clinic, said the trust of the community that the nonprofit serves is the most valuable resource the organization has. During the meeting, she said she welcomed the opportunity to work with residents to come up with a solution.

“If you erase our history, you make it easier to erase us, and a lot of us have fears of displacement and of gentrification,”It’s not the first time there have been discussions about renovating the structure. In 2019, the City Council approved a five-year tax abatement for the rehabilitation of the property into an events center.
