Phillip Sallewsky, 57, admitted to communicating with two teenage girls online and was sentenced for child sexual exploitation and child pornography offences.
A former elementary school principal from Waterloo, Ontario, will spend four years in prison after admitting to child sexual exploitation and child pornography charges. Phillip Sallewsky, 57, appeared in a London courtroom on Tuesday to receive his sentence. The Crown had requested a six-year term, while the defence lawyer, Stephen Troyer of London-based Ellis Criminal Law, had sought a two-year sentence. Sallewsky was previously the principal of Northlake Woods Public School in Waterloo.
He pleaded guilty last year to six charges, including two counts of transmitting sexually explicit material to a person under 16, two counts of luring a person under 16, and one each of making and transmitting written child pornography. The offences occurred in London, according to the Waterloo Region Record. Sallewsky communicated with the teenage victims from his home, a hockey arena, and even his school office. He was arrested in March 2023 at a Burlington GO Transit station where he had arranged to meet one of the girls. Police had been investigating Sallewsky since February 2023 after he engaged in sexually explicit online conversations with two undercover officers posing as 13 and 14-year-old girls. He used various usernames, including Sam and Chuck, to communicate with the officers. Sallewsky had been a registered member of the Ontario College of Teachers since 1992. He graduated from Western University with a Bachelor of Education in 1992 and received a Master of Education from Brock University in 2001. His certificate of qualification and registration with the college was listed as 'Cancelled - Resigned' as of April 24, 2023
