With rising NFL star and former UTSA standout Tariq Woolen in attendance, a group of 11 Roadrunners tested their credentials for the next level.
UTSA football players participating Wednesday, March 22, 2023, in pro day at the UTSA practice facility listen to instructions from an NFL scout.Taylor and Woolen have been connected since they first arrived on campus together in 2017, and as Woolen touched down in San Antonio on Tuesday night ahead of his pro day visit, one of his first calls was to Taylor around 10:30 p.m.
Taylor followed every step of Woolen’s journey — a fifth-round selection by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2022 NFL Draft — keeping a close eye on the ticker from the hospital as he awaited the birth of his daughter. Woolen was intent on returning the favor by following Taylor’s own journey, reminding him that “as long as you’re patient and keep putting the work in, something will happen.”
Woolen was also keeping a close eye on Corey Mayfield, who started opposite him at cornerback for two years with the Roadrunners.
