A 49-year-old executive accuses former UFC fighter Conor McGregor of sexual assault during the 2023 NBA finals in Miami. The woman, who previously reported the incident to police, is pursuing a civil lawsuit after prosecutors declined to file charges. The lawsuit also names the Miami Heat and Kaseya Center, alleging negligence in allowing McGregor to consume alcohol despite his intoxication.
A 49-year-old executive working at a prominent financial institution filed a civil lawsuit on Tuesday, alleging that former UFC champion Connor McGregor sexually assaulted her in a bathroom at the Kaseya Center during the 2023 NBA finals in Miami. The woman, who seeks to remain anonymous to avoid public embarrassment and shame, previously reported her accusations to the police, but prosecutors declined to press charges against McGregor.
In a statement to HuffPost, her attorney, James Dunn, said that the prosecutor's decision not to pursue criminal charges left a civil lawsuit as her only avenue for seeking justice. 'My client has carefully considered this decision to pursue a civil case,' Dunn stated, 'and she is apprehensive about the potential impact it may have on her career in Wall Street.' He added that her primary objective in filing the lawsuit is to raise awareness and encourage others who have experienced sexual assault to come forward.'After a thorough investigation at the time, the State's Attorney concluded that there was no case to pursue,' Barbara Llanes, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, said. 'Almost two years and at least three lawyers later, the plaintiff has a new false story. We are confident that this case too will be dismissed.' The lawsuit also names the Miami Heat and the Kaseya Center, alleging that on June 9, 2023, stadium staff failed to restrict McGregor's alcohol consumption despite his visible intoxication. The Kaseya Center did not immediately provide a response to HuffPost's request for comment. The lawsuit further claims that the Kaseya Center, despite being aware that McGregor had seriously injured the Miami Heat mascot in a skit that went awry, escorted him back to the courtside club near the woman, putting her at 'an elevated risk of battery.' The woman was at the game with an acquaintance, and she engaged in a conversation with McGregor, according to the lawsuit. When her acquaintance indicated their intention to leave, McGregor's 'private security or a friend' allegedly told the woman that 'Conor told me to come get you' and grabbed her by the wrist. The two women were then led toward the exit of the courtside club but were stopped in front of the entrance to the men's bathroom. The woman instructed the man holding her wrist to let go, but he replied, 'No, Conor will kill me if I lose you,' according to the lawsuit. McGregor then led her into a stall where he sexually assaulted her, the lawsuit alleges. The acquaintance was outside the bathroom at the time, and the lawsuit notes that loud music from a DJ made communication difficult. Dunn stated that she eventually managed to leave the arena without causing a scene sometime after midnight and then went to the police the following day. 'She was a regular at the Courtside club, and did not want to be embarrassed or draw attention to herself on that night or any other night,' Dunn said. This new lawsuit comes just months after McGregor was ordered to pay €250,000 to a woman who accused him of sexual assault. McGregor denied the allegations, claiming that the encounter was consensual, but the woman stated that the incident left her with significant bruises and post-traumatic stress disorder.
