Jean Chrétien, Canada's former Prime Minister, criticizes Donald Trump's attacks on Canada, arguing that they have inadvertently united Canadians in defense of their country's independence and values. He calls for Canadian leaders to exhibit strength and resilience, advocating for a proactive approach to international relations and suggesting a strategy to counter Trump's threats.

Former prime minister Jean Chrétien writes: Mr. Trump has accomplished one thing – he has unified Canadians more than we have been ever before! Mr. Chrétien greets people anxious to shake his hand following Canada Day ceremonies in Ottawa on July 1, 1996.It’s an opportunity to celebrate with family and friends. This group consists of individuals born outside Canada to parents who were also born outside of Canada, but were Canadian citizens. The court ruled a previous law, which revoked citizenship passed down from parents born abroad, unconstitutional. The government has introduced a bill to address the issue, but it is stalled in Parliament. The judge reluctantly granted the extension due to potential broader implications if the current legislation is struck down, including an 'unknowable' number of people automatically becoming citizens and inconsistent application of citizenship rules.
