Retherford won the USA Olympic Team Trials at Penn State in April but the U.S. had not qualified the 65-kilogram weight or the 57kg class, forcing Retherford and former Franklin Regional High School and University of Iowa star Spencer Lee to find their passports and compete with wrestlers from all around the world in Turkey.
