A former Lorain County corrections officer has been found guilty of assaulting an inmate and falsifying the incident report.
Ruben Ortiz was found guilty of brutally beating inmate and falsifying the report, Ortiz had a history of similar incidentsELYRIA, Ohio - Judge Robert C. White found Ortiz guilty of both charges and fined him $250 for each offense.The incident happened Aug. 25, 2023, when Ortiz was preparing inmate Edward Koch for transport.
Surveillance video from the jail’s transport area shows Ortiz began preparing Koch by putting a belly chain around his waist. Investigators say Ortiz then falsified the incident report, making it appear that his actions were justified.As a result, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office later fired Ortiz.
