Back in 1975, the Graham family began their life at Trowbridge Light Station, off the northern shore of Lake Superior. For Eve and her now late husband, Gordon, it was the start of a nearly 20 year career in lightkeeping. "The first few months out there were beautiful, enjoying the peacefulness, the serene. But then I eventually started missing my female companions, my friends," she said. The family stayed at Trowbridge from March to December while frigid Lake Superior was free of ice. Duties included everything from manual labour, to working with generators and radio equipment. Important work, as those activities helped to keep the waters safe for the booming shipping industry on the great lake.

"You can't just go to the bakery and get bread every day. So I had to bake bread often. And when my children both came to the age that they had to be educated, I was responsible for educating them," she continued.
