Former Liberal MP Celina Caesar-Chavannes officially registered Tuesday as a candidate in Toronto’s mayoral byelection.
“Toronto is at a crossroads,” said the former representative for the federal riding of Whitby, citing current issues of pandemic recovery, inflated costs of living and public security. “Right now is an opportunity for bold leadership to step in — who has a vision, who has a track record in government, and who can stand up for Toronto.”
The “contentious issue with the prime minister,” said Caesar-Chavannes, “solidified me as someone who is able to push back against the status quo, whether it’s from my own party or not, and stand up for the values and principles I think Torontonians hold dear.” Before entering federal politics, Caesar-Chavannes, who lives in Toronto, was an entrepreneur with her own research management consulting firm.
