Andrew Weaver, who previously led the B.C. Green Party, expressed surprise at Sonia Furstenau's resignation but deemed it the right decision given the party's disappointing election results. Weaver criticized the party's decision to collaborate with the B.C. NDP and questioned Furstenau's candidacy in a seemingly safe NDP seat.

The former leader of the B.C. Green Party said the resignation of Sonia Furstenau as leader did not surprise him.

Furstenau announced her resignation Tuesday , citing personal reasons. It came after she lost her election race in Victoria-Beacon Hill in October, and after she had helped negotiate a 'co-operation and responsible government accord' with the B.C. NDP, announced in mid-December.

"If that is the case, she threw the entire political party under the bus and that is not appropriate, because it is not about you, it's about the collective," Weaver said.
