Breneman was just 25 when Arizona State named him tight ends coach last January. He was placed on administrative leave in July.
The former Cedar Cliff and Penn State standout tight end was one of four assistants to depart the program — offensive coordinator Zak Hill also resigned and receivers coach Prentice Gill and secondary coach Chris Hawkins were also fired, according to reports — in the past week.
Breneman was just 25 when he was named tight ends coach for the program last January, but was placed on administrative leave in July amid an NCAA investigation into the program’s recruiting tactics during the coronavirus pandemic. That came after Yahoo Sportson a “dossier of documents” concerning recruiting violations that occurred during the NCAA’s “dead period” for recruiting from March 2020 until June 1.
That dossier reportedly included “email screenshots and receipts of Breneman allegedly paying $596.20 for a recruit to visit the Tempe campus from Philadelphia.” That recruit, according to the report, did not pick Arizona State.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
