Weissert, who debuted with the New York Yankees on Thursday night, became the 13th former Thunder Bay Border Cats player to make the major leagues. Weissert, 27, hit two batters and walked two in a third of an inning of work, responsible for three runs.
The Fordham University graduate spent the 2015 season with the Border Cats, going 2-3 with a 1.74 ERA. He was taken in the 18th round of the 2016 draft by the Yankees and was enjoying a standout 2022 campaign at AAA, going 2-1 with a 1.76 ERA in 46 innings of relief for Scranton/Wiles-Barre. He's one of five former Cats to play in the big leagues this year, a group that includes Penn Murfee, Jason Vosler, Michael Papierski and Matthew Batten.
