In April 2018, former CPS member Brad McNish was convicted ofof trust and unauthorized use of a police computer database, while Morton was found guilty of those charges as well asMorton was handed a 30-month penitentiary term while McNish was sentenced to six months in jail.

The two were convicted along with other individuals, including retired officer Steve Walton and his wife, for taking part in an elaborate stalking campaign against theCalgary businessman Ken Carter leaves the Calgary Courts Centre on Oct. 19, 2018.Ken Carter had hired Walton, an unlicensed private investigator, to conduct surveillance on Akele Taylor, the mother of his youngest child.

Morton and McNish’s convictions were upheld by the Alberta Court of Appeal in June 2020, and in late January of the following year the same court reaffirmed their sentences. In considering Morton’s latest appeal, the ALERB concluded the presiding officer in his case acted reasonably and that the process wasn’t overly delayed.
