Brian Matusz, a left-handed pitcher who spent eight seasons in Major League Baseball , primarily with the Baltimore Orioles during their resurgence a decade ago, has passed away at the age of 37. The Orioles and the University of San Diego, Matusz's alma mater, confirmed his death Tuesday night. The cause of death was not disclosed. Matusz was selected by the Orioles with the fourth overall pick in the 2008 draft.
He made his MLB debut in 2009 and was a starter until transitioning to the bullpen in 2012. That year, Baltimore qualified for the playoffs as a wild card for the first time in 15 years. The Orioles traded Matusz to Atlanta in 2016, and he later played for the Chicago Cubs, making his final MLB appearance in 2016
