For Díaz, whose 6-year-old son Nathan was diagnosed with autism, the gloves are both a symbol of support and a means to send out a positive message about inclusion.
The red and blue gloves stand out against Díaz’s new uniform colors, A’s green and gold. That’s the point. Díaz, 32, is not alone in his effort. His batting gloves are made by Bruce Bolt, an Austin-based company pledging to donate $1 each for every glove sold on its website from April 1-7 to Autism Speaks, a non-profit that works to advance research and understanding of autism spectrum disorder, and to Canopy Children’s Solutions, a Mississippi-based nonprofit provider of health and social services.
