Bachman has a 100 mph fastball and a plus slider, and he’s spent the winter working to refine his changeup. He was the Angels’ first-round pick in 2021.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Angels pitchers and catchers held their first official workout of spring training on Sunday.Instead of Shohei Ohtani or Noah Syndergaard, Sam Bachman held court with reporters as the Most Prominent Angels Pitcher. With everyone on the 40-man roster locked out of camp, minor league camp is the only show in town.
Detmers shot to the big leagues barely a year after he was drafted, and many believe that Bachman is on a similar trajectory. Bachman, 22, continued throwing after just a short break last fall, and he’s been working out at the Angels complex for most of the winter. “It’s a very good pitch,” Bush said. “It plays really well off his fastball. He’ll throw a couple that dive super late. I’m like ‘Dude, that looked good. Throw that one every time.’”
