Technology has transformed the workforce throughout the years. Find out how to create boundaries and achieving a work-life fit. paid colehaan

Achieving an ideal work-life fit involves a series tweaks and bigger resets that come along when your reality truly does change.“Balance is a tired old concept that needs to be put to pasture,” said Cali Williams Yost, a work transformation strategist.

In their personal lives, nearly 80 percent of millennials are also part of dual-income households, where both partners work full-time and have duties at home, according to Ernst & Young’s. That compares to just 47 percent of baby boomers, who still hold the most management jobs and are more likely to have a non-working partner at home.

Once you’ve determined your optimal working conditions, try to choose an employer that aligns with the type of flexibility you are trying to achieve, said Yost. Whether you’re in a new or existing job, it’s also important to communicate with your supervisor on a regular basis to clarify your priorities and provide ongoing updates on your work.

Also, be willing to recalibrate your work-life fit if circumstances change, Yost warned. There may be times when you really do need to be in the office, so be flexible with your flexibility — and remember that the point is to get your job done well.To create the best work-life fit, Yost suggested taking advantage of key technology tools.
