German Chancellor-in-waiting Olaf Scholz and his centre-left Social Democratic Party are in talks with the environmentalist, pro-spending Greens and the libertarian, business-friendly Free Democratic Party to build a three-way coalition to legalise recreational cannabis.
Representatives from the parties told the Funke media group on Nov. 18 that they were working on suggestions for “introducing the controlled distribution of cannabis to adults for recreational purposes in licensed shops.” Negotiators for the SPD, Greens and FDP are still working out details of their coalition deal, including rules under which the sale and use of recreational cannabis would be allowed and regulated in Europe’s largest economy.Source: REUTERS/Carlos Osorio
