Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced Tuesday that his cabinet has discussed an economic action plan to respond to potential tariffs from the United States. Ford said the plan will be unveiled throughout the upcoming election campaign, which he called after stating he needs a new mandate to deal with President Donald Trump's trade threats.
TORONTO — Ontario Premier Doug Ford's cabinet has discussed an"economic action plan" to respond to tariffs from the United States, the premier said Tuesday, indicating that it will be announced throughout the upcoming election campaign.
Officials say the economic action plan has not yet been approved by cabinet and therefore won't be implemented during the campaign — and Ford instead suggested it will be rolled out as announcements."Right now, President Trump has put uncertainty, has put uncertainty to every single Canadian, a lot of other countries around the world, and this isn't going to happen overnight. It may not happen Feb.
Opposition leaders have said calling an election more than a year early is a waste of time and money and the justification of needing a mandate to deal with Trump is just an excuse to capitalize on good polling.
