While report clears Ford of wrongdoing, it makes recommendations for changes to process for future appointments.
Ontario’s integrity commissioner says Premier Doug Ford did not break any rules in the now-aborted appointment of his friend Ron Taverner as commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police, but called the hiring process “flawed.”
“I found that the Premier stayed at arm’s length from the recruitment process and that he believed it to be independent. However, I found that there were some troubling aspects of the recruitment process and ultimately made the finding that the process was flawed,” Mr. Wake wrote. The integrity commissioner’s review was prompted by complaints from the NDP and Liberals, who alleged the hiring of Mr. Ford’s long-time friend was a conflict of interest.
