Unlike competitors such as Talkspace that are geared toward people in crisis, Real wants to be a preventive measure that eases users into long-term “mental wellness.”

But this year’s highest funded social impact startup is founded by Australia-born Samuel Bertram, who has raised $60 million for his vertical farming company OnePointOne from the likes of Blackhorn Ventures, tennis champ Novak Djokovic, and Youtube cofounder Steve Chen. Using robots and AI, OnePointOne grows plants indoors away from nature's unpredictability. Its plants grow without soil or sunlight, replaced with high-precision irrigation and illumination systems.

“We have the opportunity to bring a nature-based, permanent, and scalable solution to the livestock industry that creates radical reductions in the industry’s greenhouse gas burden,” explains 26-year-old Akbay. “Our product is transformative as farmers shift to more sustainable practices and we work together as a society to reduce all major sources of emissions.”
