For the second time this week, an Ottawa police K9 unit has helped police land a fleeing suspect.
When an Ottawa police neighbourhood resource team pulled over a car near Hawthorne Road and Stevenage Drive at about 9 p.m. Thursday, the driver fled on foot, the Ottawa Police Service said.
A police dog tracked and found the driver, who was arrested and charged, along with a passenger who stayed in the vehicle.Earlier this week, at about 6 a.m. Tuesday, a K9 patrol unit tried to pull over a stolen vehicle on the eastbound Highway 417 near Innes Road, police said. The driver of the vehicle didn’t stop but soon ditched the vehicle and fled on foot. The dog tracked down a suspect and an arrest was made. A 19-year-old man faces charges, police said.
When K9 officers aren’t working on specific calls for service, they routinely patrol the city with their dog on board.
