The first large group of protesters appeared June 7 at the Sgt. Willie DeLeon Civic Center, and was followed by another boisterous crowd there on June 21, the night the council considered granting the leave of absence to Arredondo resigned a few days before the council’s first session in July, but crowds continued to descend on the council, whether it met in the spacious civic center or the more cramped confines of City Hall.People bow their heads during an invocation as Uvalde City Council holds a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022.A small but loud contingent of protesters, many of them relatives of victims, continues to confront Uvalde school superintendent Hal Harrell.

“It’s the first time I have been to any meeting that nobody spoke,” he said. “I don’t understand why, but I guess that’s how it is.”
