Democrats lining up to challenge Trump have barely begun to tap fundraisers or woo voters in Florida, leaving money and campaign talent up for grabs in the nation’s largest swing state

Some are staying on the sidelines to see how the early race shakes out. Others are waiting to be approached.

Harris attended a fundraiser hosted by longtime Democratic donor Alex Heckler on Sunday and on Monday will attend a second one held by Brad Carlson, a Florida bundler with growing influence in LGBT political circles. Harris and Klobuchar also have begun hiring. Harris has brought in Stefanie Sass and Kirsten Allen, both of whom have worked for former Sen. Bill Nelson.

“You build a campaign this far out based on timelines and what are your key benchmarks,” Ulvert said. “The four early states are going to be early in the timeline.” Biden was on the ticket when President Barack Obama won the state twice. His brother, Frank, lives in Palm Beach County.
