Not wanting to gamble on what the free\u002Dagent market may bring, the Redblacks have signed quarterback Nick Arbuckle to a one\u002Dyear contract extension.

He dressed for 12 games for Ottawa, throwing for a career-high 2,400 yards on 308 pass attempts, along with four touchdowns, leading the Redblacks to three of their four wins. Arbuckle will be the backup to Jeremiah Masoli. It looks like Caleb Evans will test the free-agent market. Dustin Crum and Tyrie Adams are also on the Redblacks’ roster. “Nick is a five-year veteran of our league and we’re pleased he and his family have decided to stay in Ottawa with the Redblacks,” said general manager Shawn Burke in a statement. “We’re excited to head into the 2023 season with two quarterbacks with significant experience in the CFL game.”
Arbuckle was also dealt to Ottawa by Calgary in 2020. But following the COVID-cancelled season, he moved on to the Toronto Argonauts. He was traded to Edmonton late in the 2021 season.
