California's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will send the first payment for August worth up to $1,691 to California residents in three days.
Arrival dates for those who receive SNAP benefits in California depend on a household's Social Security number, last name, or case number. The arrival dates for the SNAP benefits remain the same each month, but vary based on the state beneficiaries reside. SNAP payments, operated through the name CalFresh in the Golden State, are distributed from Aug. 1 to Aug. 10, depending on the recipient’s case number.
The amount of assistance California residents will receive is dependent on household size, income, and monthly expenses.California uses the EBT card system, which works similarly to a debit card and can be used at grocery stores to purchase eligible food products such as fruits and vegetables, bread, meat and poultry items, and drinks. SNAP benefits are barred from being used for products such as pet food, alcohol, and household items like paper and soap items.
Around 13% of California's population receives assistance from CalFresh, according to 2022 data from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
