The school district's move follows that of other districts around the city, including nearby Southwest ISD.
Students may still bring smaller bags to school, but those bags need to meet new requirements.
Small bags and clutches must be 5.5" by 8.5" or smaller, while clear bags may be 12" by 6" by 12". Students may also bring 12" by 12" 1-gallon clear freezer bags or smaller. Those students involved in extracurricular activities necessitating backpacks must put them away inside designated areas, the district added.. The district said the move was to"focus on academics and to reduce any potential distraction and concerns.
