Atkinson is signed through next season at a cap hit of $5.875 million. He posted 13 goals and 28 points in 70 games this season, but became a regular healthy scratch late in the year. A veteran of 770 NHL games, Atkinson has 249 goals and 480 points over his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Flyers.

According to CapFriendly, the Flyers project to have just over $7 million in cap space - if Ryan Ellis' $6.25 million cap hit remains on LTIR - this off-season with 19 players under contract for next season. With that in mind, general manager Daniel Briere previously pointed to Atkinson and goaltender Cal Petersen as possible buyout candidates. on June 6."Because we're tight on cap space, we're still looking at every possible option in that direction.
